Princess Theatre
The most popular Australian theatre.
Constructed in 1854, the Princess Theatre, originally called the Astley Amphitheatre, is without doubt the most popular Australian theatre. It took on its current name following the 1857 renovations. Nowadays, it is one of the largest Victorian theatres in the world. Its facade is brilliantly illuminated at night showcasing the sloping roofs and the marble steps that justify its status as a unique architectural site.
Take in a pre-show dinner in the Melba or Marriner halls before seeing one of the many classic musicals here like The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Cats, Dirty Dancing and so on.
